To understand this picture, let us start with a little time travel: Nearly 10 years ago, a long-time FGMC client, Lloyd Land, approached David Foster with a new project: develop his current farmland near Hwy 85 into an industrial and commercial mixed-use project. His anchor tenant in toe was Oklahoma-based Love’s Travel Stop. The 53-acre parcel was currently in unincorporated Adams County, thus, the first step was annexation into the City of Brighton. David, and his late-partner, Jerri Jenkins, started on the entitlement journey that, little did they know at the time, would span nearly 10 years. Between changing market conditions, floodplain considerations, changes to water policy, updates to the City of Brighton’s Land Development Code, offsite improvements for Hwy 85, and the list goes on, the project was seemingly met with hurdles at every turn. Fast forward to 2020, with annexation and zoning in place, Erik Carlson took the torch with the rest of Lloyd’s team to carry the final plat across the finish line, the final step before building permits and ultimately, the construction of the first of many in the project – a new Love’s Travel Stop.
When Lloyd came into the FGMC offices to sign his subdivision mylars on November 2nd, 2023, it was a no-brainer that a picture was in order. Nothing beats that “end of a project” smile.
