Tim Foster is an accomplished attorney, educator, and public servant with a distinguished career spanning law, government, and higher education leadership. He served as the 10th president of Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University), joining the institution in 2004 and helping guide its significant growth and transformation over the following years.
Before leading the college, Tim was appointed by Governor Bill Owens to serve as Executive Director of the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, where he oversaw statewide higher education policy and agencies, including the Colorado Historical Society, the Colorado Student Loan Program, and the Colorado Council on the Arts. Earlier in his career, Tim was a partner at the Grand Junction law firm of Foster, Larson, Laiche & Griff, and represented his community in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1988 to 1996, serving as Majority Leader during his final four years in office.
Tim earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver College of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with Honors from Kenyon College. He also completed the course work for a Master’s in Mineral Economics from the Colorado School of Mines. His broad experience in law, policy, and education has made him a respected leader and advocate for Colorado’s students and communities.
A Grand Junction native, Tim is an avid cyclist, swimmer, and soccer enthusiast. He and his wife have four sons and remain deeply involved in their local community.
